The River Blackwater, which flows through West Waterford before entering the sea at Youghal, is a noted salmon river offering spring, summer and autumn fishing. The salmon angling season opens on February 1st and ends on September 30th. Tourist offices will have details of permits for fishing and angling. The River Blackwater also has stocks of sea trout and brown trout. Coarse anglers also find the river rewarding for roach, dace rudd and tench. Cappoquin, Ballyduff and Lismore are the major angling centres for the river. The River Tar and River Nire are both renowned game angling rivers, where the villages of Ballymacarbry and Newcastle service the angler. The River Suir is another of Waterford's great game angling rivers served by Waterford City, Portlaw, as well as the Co. Tipperary towns of Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel. The lakes around Tramore hold stocks of brown trout as indeed do the River Colligan, River Finisk and River Brickey near Dungarvan.
There are Deep Sea Angling Boats for hire at Dunmore East and Dungarvan where Avoca - Diving and Angling Charter have a Sea Angling Charter Boat available for wreck, reef and shark fishing. Rods and tackle for hire. Shore Anglers will find the great variety of species very satisfying near Cheekpoint and Passage East in the east, near Dungarvan and Ardmore in the west, and, indeed all along the magnificent coastline.
